A beautiful Thanksgiving

We had a great Thanksgiving yesterday with family in our own home. The morning started with Brayden and I making a Homemade Dutch Apple Pie together and the rest of the day went just as seemlessly and created lots of new fun memories. I knew this year would be feeling like it was lacking without Mike's Dad there, and it did, but I couldnt help but feel his presence among us and feel God's hand on our day allowing things to go as well as they did and allow everyone to really enjoy spending time together. Mike fried two turkeys, Mike's mom made a bunch of delicious food but nothing can top her famous Butternut Squash Soup, and I chimed in with some crockpot mashed potatoes, a green bean casserole, and the pie. Mike's partner was able to come join us later in the day since the guys had to work last night, and Mike's Aunt and Uncle and Mike's Brothers family were all able to join us for the day of festivities. We didn't have some nicely decorated table, and Martha Stewart wouldn't have been impressed with our "eat anywhere but not out in the cold" approach, but I thought it was perfect, kids playing, ladies taking turns in the kitchen, laughter, music, football, the Macy's parade, turkey frying in the garage, etc. I'm so grateful for all the little blessings in my life and don't want to lose sight of the special moments like Mike holding Paytin on his lap just before he had to go to work while I fed her her Thanksgiving dinner, or Brayden's silliness as we worked on the pie together, my teenage sister in law standing strong and smiling on the first holiday without her Daddy, a mother in law who puts together food and preperations like its not hard at all,....we are so very blessed for another year, and another Holiday Season to be among us!

No Way

There is no way to catch up on the blogging I have missed in the last 4 months. And even though I have several "drafts" created through those 4 months that never quite made it to the page because of one thing or another, I still miss my blogging. So instead of trying to catch up, I'm jsut going to keep going as if I never stopped. Yes thats a 4 month gap in time, but, we'll just have to let it be for now!

Brayden is just about to finish up his first season of soccer. I had no idea how much he, or I, or our family would love him being involved in his first sport. He had a great group of kids on his team, and even though he was the youngest, and the smallest, that didn't deter him in the slightest. He always felt like one of the team and all the kids always treated him as such. I love how he isn't shy at all and how he instantly made friends with the other kids. I loved even more watching him stand up for one of the girls on his team when a girl on another team was making fun of her. Mike and I laughed non stop at how our kid has a personality bigger then any other kid we've ever met. He laughed and joked and danced, and ran, and ran, and ran during the game, often yelling super cute things at us like "I'm doing so great Mom!" Some games he didn't even touch the ball (though there weren't many) but you would have never known that by how much FUN he was having out there! His team's name was the Blue Jays and we had two great coaches and a really fun season. I'm already looking forward to next year!

Paytin is finally just taking off with walking! I can't say that it's been the relazing period in time that it was with Brayden though. That old saying about being grateful for the down time before they get active isn't true for Paytin. Anything I had learned, besides the unmeasurable love I could have for my little ones, in parenting Brayden doesnt really apply to Paytin. Where Brayden was timid, Paytin is outgoing, where he was easily entertained, she is the busiest little body ever, where Brayden was content, Paytin is adventurous, where Brayden wanted to cuddle, Paytin is fiercely independent, and where Brayden slept and slept and slept, Paytin doesnt, like ever. Haha. I love them so much, and am so grateful for how incredibly different they are. The bags in my eyes, and constant yawning, and several cups of coffee might scream different some days, but really, my heart is so very full! But back to walking, Paytin started taking steps at one of Brayden's soccer game and has "taken off" since then. She is still very wobbley and still crawls a lot, but she is getting so great at it and she is so hilarious how everytime she sits, stops, or falls she lights up as we clap for her and she claps for himself. Like I said, she's into everything, so before she even started taking steps, she was climbing the walls and can get on the table, chairs, computer desk, couch, our beds, with no problem. She's so insanely determined at all those things, and has no patience for trivial little things like toys. She's signing a few words and saying a few words and loves to jibber jabber. But aside from that, there are some glaring similarities between her and her brother and one is their LOVE for music. I have to get a good long video of how infectiously cute their dance moves are. Brayden has a very modern, hip hop feel to his dance moves and for sure gets them from his super coordinated Daddy, Paytin loves to bop up and down and wiggle her body and shake her arms and its absolutely melt-worthy! They adore each other still but we are starting to see more of the sibling rivalry between the two of them!

Mike is doing great still, doing so wonderful at work and its hard some times to not brag about him left and right about how wonderful he does at his job. There are so many people that don't "feel" their jobs, or are just getting by in them, I have to say, while it may be insanely hard work and so demanding and challenging, Mike is the best deputy I've ever met. I really can't say enough how proud I am. It means so much to me when someone comes up and thanks me for Mike, or tells me how blessed I am to be married to him. He makes a huge difference in our community, he makes people feel safer, he makes people feel at home, and he makes other people know that the law is the law. I really can't say enough about how proud I am of him as a man, and the integrity he has that is perfectly laced with determination, hard work, and compassion. He's a gem and he's such a blessing to me!

And I'm gearing up for a busy season with the Christmas Toy Drive coming up! That and staying busy with the kids and other goings on, and its no wonder I haven't blogged in so long. I promise to get back in it for whoever checks this, and am hoping to have some cute and memorable pictures to come in the next couple weeks!

Lots of love to everyone!

4 years later

Exactly 4 years ago I was in a hospital room in Oxnard, Ca. I'd like to say something awesome like I was meditating on the Bible, listening to soothing worship music, and getting a back rub from my hubby while I worked through contractions like they were nothing, but let's be realy here. I was snuggled up with my huge noodle pillow, passed on asleep from a combination of benadryl and epidural drugs probably drooling, as my body prepared for the entrance of our beautiful firstborn babe in just shy of 3 hours now. Crazy. Just crazy.

And fast forward through the quickest 4 years of my life. I just tucked the sweetest, cutest, funniest, most amazing boy into bed after watching some freaky Shark show with him (at his request), reading a book, singing a song and non stop giggles because he really wanted to sing happy birthday and I kept telling him we couldnt until tomorrow. Then as I left his room I heard him singing Happy Birthday to himself and giggling like crazy. Then I let Brutus up to his room and got to overhear bits and pieces of an intense converation Brayden had with him about the fact that it is his birthday tomorrow and how big he is getting and he's going to be four, etc. Insert lump in throat, eyes welling up, heart overflowing here :) and for the rest of this post.

I'm a nostalgic chic. I might not have much about myself figured out, as I like to think of myself very much as a work in progress, but emotions are something I have no problem feeling and sharing. My hubby and kids bring this out like no other.

Last year, Brayden was a brand new big brother, loved pirates, and refused to potty train. Those are the first three things that come to mind. This year, he's a "veteran" big brother, fiercely indepent (at times), and finding his own identity more everyday. I feel like this year I went from being a mom to two babies, to being a mom to a toddler and a boy way too quickly. Instead of clinginess, separation anxiety, and serious attachment, I have this all boy, in love with sharks, destined to be the next superhero, wants to do everything on his own, can't wait to be dropped off at his grandparent's house little boy. And he rocks. Every single step of the last 4 years has totally rocked.

Your firstborn changes you in ways that another baby never can. That says nothing about love or relationship, it just says a lot about how your first child grows you and grows up with you. That's so true with Bray. He's such a huge help to me, and has the most willing and sweetest personality. He helps me with chores, willingly, and even asks to help, he LOVES his family, and he LOVES his friends. Stop, pause. He loves, whole heartedly, deeply, with compassion and deep rooted care. He worried when we tell him his friend is sick, he worried after his Papa had surgery, he gets very very sad when he realizes he isn't going to see family members for awhile, etc. If I had to pick one characteristic to focus on about Brayden, it would be his love. It will get him so far in life, and it will and has already touched so many people in our lives and I'm so blessed to have such a caring boy.

He loves superheroes right now, like loves them. He'll be the first to tell you that Wolverine is his favorite and that he's going to get his claws when he gets bigger (there's a big long story that goes with that, for another time). He'll probably tell you a bunch of nonsensical stories about various superhero stuff he has, has watched, super powers, how weapons are used, etc. I love it. He loves sharks. Now, another pause. Is it any wonder that Mike's favorite thing ever as a child was X-men, in particular Wolverine, and that he is somewhat shall I say obsessed with sharks?  Hmmm, like father like son much? So, his birthday party is going to be superheroes and boy I can't wait. If my parent's thought I was bad as a kid begging for my presents, I'm ten times worse as an adult trying to contain my excitement over the stuff I get to do for my child. I'm super grateful that I married a guy that is the exact same way too :-).

Anyways, this post went a million ways I wasn't expecting it too, but that's how my brain seems to work these days. This birthday seems big to me, though its not a milestone birthday. It's the last year Brayden will be home with my and Paytin before he goes to school for the rest of his time in our house, its the last full year I get to be totally selfish and keep him all to myself. It's a big year as he keeps finding his boyhood identity, maybe playing a community sport, continuing on in Awana, etc. I guess there isn't something "big" that is happening, but just another year, right at our fingertips, and before I know it I will be sitting in the same spot next year, barely able to remember doing this right now, because I have another year chocked full of memories and life as a mom.

Happy birthday to the second love of my life, to my firstborn, to my only son, my best buddy, my Brayden Asher!

Paytin at 13 months....

Well, I didn't know if I was going to continue my "monthly" updates of Paytin past a year or not, but as I looked at the calendar today and realized by baby girl is officially 13 months I thought, why not throw down some updates and facts on her blog? Not sure that pictures will follow as we have a busy next couple of days, but I might try for some :)

Paytin at 13 months:

  • still in size 3 diapers and 12-18 month old clothes. Don't think that's gonna be changing too soon.
  • rarely ever eats baby food these days, but I will encourage her to eat some if I feel like she is pushing away a certain "human food" more often then not.
  • not breastfeeding anymore.....I dont know that I've allowed myself to really stop and think about it because I dont know that I want to go all nostalgic about it, but here it is briefly...I wnated really badly to breastfeed Paytin since I didnt have the opportunity to do that with Brayden. I believe breastfeeding is best for Mama and Baby and really saw that for Paytin and I. I came down to my pre-both of my baby's weight in less than 5 months, and Paytin chunked up quite well from her 6 lb 3 oz frame. I loved breastfeeding, though sometimes it was inconvenient, though it was uncomfortable for some people, though sometimes it was painful or uncomfortable even for me! I'm pro breast feeding, but also pro whatever you have to do. I formula fed Brayden and therefore have a huge sensitivity to women who wanted to breastfeed but weren't able too for whatever reason. Even overcoming the obstacle of nursing Paytin only on one side for 9 months because of her early torticollis which meant twice as often feedings, was a challenge! Anyways, I stopped nursing her right at about 12.5 months and am grateful for the time I was able to slow down and cherish those bonding moments!
  • crawls everywhere, still not walking, I am so ok with that! She walks along furniture and pretty steadily with her push toy, I know if will be a matter of time before she walks and I am enjoying only having to chase around a rambunctious crawler at this point!
  • says "Ba" for Brayden, "Ma" for me, and "Da" for Mike. It's pretty darn sweet. She doesnt always do it consistently, but she gets it and its fun when she does it, especially when she is screaming BAAAAAAA at the top of her lungs when trying to get to her Brayden.
  • loves to pick on brother knowing that we are strict on him to be gentle with her. I think she really understands that she can get away with it and goes the extra mile. She loves to take his toys, hit him, and crawl all over him trying to kiss him.
  • She doesn't sit still for books or TV and I'm ok with that.
  • She knows how to take the plug ins out of the wall outlets and I'm not ok with that.
  • She also makes a mad dash for things she knows she's not supposed to be doing and occassionally turns around while making her dash, which causes her to fact plant.
  • She has more bumps and bruises then Bray EVER had at this point and I think its because she doesn't take no for an answer, and isn't at all happy with toys.
  • On 4th of July I was sure we were gonna be dealing with a trip to the hospital after the strap to her umbrella stroller broke and sent her flying face forward into the asphalt. It was hard to see, and even harder to try and calm her down while seeing a giant black and blue goose egg form on her forehead. If one of my best friend's Sara hadn't been there, I am sure I would have started crying and hyperventilating. It turned out to just be a big big owie, and no hospital trip was needed. However, the day after, when she intentionally lunged at the front door from the bottom stair and conked the other side of her noggin, I wasn't quite as sympathetic.
  • she has a new love interest for our dogs, particularly Dottie and her puppies so we have to keep a close eye on her then too.
  • She can be pretty picky with her food, but is doing much better with her gag reflex and eating bigger things. She has also learned the art of throwing her food to the dogs (sigh).
  • She does much better in the car thanks to her big girl carseat but still doesnt love it.
  • On a normal day she takes a small mornign nap, long afternoon nap and happily sleeps through the night about 830 to 7 am. I'm so thankful for that!
She was a total trooper this past month with a long vacation to So Cal that threw her naptimes and bedtimes way off, and then coming home to a visit from friends! It was an exciting, fun filled, loved one filled month and we had such a great time with everyone! Here's to month 14!

Nighttime Conversations

Mike stopped by for a quick bite tonight during his work shift, and as he was leaving, I told him to call up to Brayden and tell him goodnight, just to see if Bray was still awake, then we heard Brayden call back down goodnight to Daddy, and after I said bye to Mike, I went up to cuddle with him and talk for a bit. I never quite know what turns my conversations will take with my thoughtful, inquisitive, and talkative boy but tonight was a special treat. This is it in summary

Me: Why's your door open?
Brayden: I just opened it because if it was closed, no one would come to save me.
Me: Save you from what?
Brayden: I don't know, but no one could get me, so I opened it a lot.
Me: Thats ok, we can leave it open tonight.

Then we talked a bit more about the night and Daddy and bedtime and the conversation turned to Brayden getting bigger.
Me: Will you still love me when you get bigger?
Brayden: Yes, Mom, I'll still be the same guy! (said just like that)
Me: So you'll still be the same guy, so you'll still love me?
Brayden: Yes and Paytin and Daddy too!

Then the conversation went to talking about when kids grow up and become adults, they dont always live with their mommies and daddies anymore, Brayden wasn't thrilled about this.

Brayden: I'm still going to love you and I'm still going to live with you too, even when I am big.
Me: Well, you might not always want too, but thats ok if you want too now.
Brayden: Me and Paytin both are going to live with you guys when you get bigger.
Me: (trying to change the subject with him) Will you still give me hugs and kisses when you are bigger?
Brayden: (very serious) Girl kisses are yucky (first time I've been told this), so I wont be able to kiss you anymore when I am bigger.
Me: Well, some girl kisses are yucky, but I'm pretty sure Mommy kisses are just fine
Brayden: Nope, you're a girl, girl kisses are yucky Mom.
Me: So you wont give me kisses anymore? Not even now?
Brayden: Nope, sorry.
Me: Ok, well what about hugs?
Brayden: (deep in thought) I have a good idea, we can hug/kiss.
Me: What do you mean?
Brayden: Like a special hug.
Me: Can you show me?

Brayden hugs me real quick and gives me a super fast peck
Brayden: Like that
Me: I think thats a good idea, I like that.
Brayden: That can be our speical hug. Only me and you.
Me: Sounds good

Then it ended with goodnights and I love you's and another hug/kiss and he's hopefully off to sleep.  Love that little boy and his super sweet heart!

12 month photos of the girl on the go!

All SOOC because where in the world would I find time to finally learn my camera or learn my editting software much less use it (enjoy the sarcasm), but seriously, no time to edit, but here are P Lily's 12 month photos at last!

The smile that melts me

fishy face

The cardboard "1" I had hoped would be a prop that ended up getting ripped to pieces in seconds, whoops!

Pretty in Pink

Happy Girl

What my "Paytin Photo Shoots" really look like.

When she knows she's getting away with not letting me get good photos

When she heard me say "Almost Done"

And when I tried to snap a couple more, LOL!

The only time she's still is if there is a bottle/sippy/ or food involved.

Happy Happy Happy 1st Birthday again Baby Girl!

Cupcake Smash Birthday Bash

To be fair, I shall utter a warning: there are quite a few pics to follow and hopefully more after I get the ones my sis-in-law snapped too
Paytin and Gideon (taken by Spring), 2.5 months apart.

Brayden and Daddy testing the decorations out the night before)

And truth be told, Daddy thought we still didnt have enough balloons!

We love to decorate!

Paytin and Mommy the morning of the big bash!

Can't believe my baby is ONE!

What can I say? I have the sweetest baby daddy (pun intended)

who can apparently also frost cupcakes better then me!

Cupcake Tree!

Melt.My.Heart!

Me and the Grumpy Gal; no, she really wasn't grumpy but she was very needy and clingy to Mommy, little did we know because a tooth was cutting through her gums that day!

Pretty pretty princess

The wonderful Khaos! (spelling intended)

The wonderful Grammy, who hasn't missed ONE single birthday/birthday party yet though she lives over 7 hours away! AND she did all the dishes after the party, I know, she rocks, right?!

Great Uncle Jimmy! Also hasn't missed a party yet! (with Great Auntie Judy)

Paytin's rockin' new wheels from MeeMa and Papa

Testing her baby doll stroller out from Grammy

These two cousins were as cute as can be together, but all 5 boy cousins were pretty hilarious!

Love that Grammy always brings a small token gift for the "non birthday" grandkids, such special memories in the making!

Me and my SWEET nephew Gideon, meeting him for the first time at 9 months old! Saw my brother and sis in law and nephews just two weeks before he was born! He is FULL of smiles and laughs!

Cousin fun!

If you're gonna swing, might as well swing naked!

She was over it by this time, but I have the same pic of us with Brayden like this!

Yes, rough life for Princess Paytin, new shades, cute suit, new pool toy, and in the hot tub of all places, you go girl!

The baby who NEVER EVER does this, did it, and all thanks to Grammy, it helped that she was pooped out from all that partyin'!

I got to steal her away and enjoy the moment too before putting her to bed!

LOVE this more than I can say, they are the BEST!

Another "Kincaid memory" shot, the night before my baby turns one, I sneak in their room after they are sleeping and take one last picture of them as a "baby" yes they are still my babies no matter what their age, but I love the pic I got of Bray, so I repeated it, and love this one the same :)

Only the most awesome big brother put up with having tea with their baby sisters!

Great Uncle Jimmy again!

The Breakfast Bunch, well, some of them!
